Obituary for J. Andrew "Andy" Reamer

LeRoy-J. Andrew (Andy) Reamer, 97 of W. Main Rd. died peacefully at home Monday morning Jan. 16th, 2017.

Andy was born Oct. 26th, 1919 in Stafford, NY to the late Stephen Reamer and Mary (Loksa) Reamer.

Andy started his career as a tool and die maker at Lapp Insulator but moved on to work as a Tool and Die Engineer at LeRoy Machine Co. in 1951, retiring in 1982 after 31 yrs. For much of his life he worked on the family farm, Stephen Reamer & Sons, with his father and brother’s Albert and Victor. He was active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church serving on the Vestry and various committees.

Andy was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing in the adult basketball league, camping and fishing and after retirement took up golf and was a member of the LeRoy Senior’s League for many years. When not in his machine shop making his ideas come to life he was tending his vegetable and flower gardens. He participated in Golden Gloves boxing, went on numerous hunting and fishing excursions with his many friends and for many years wintered in Florida where he would surf fish.

He is survived by his children David (Sumiko) Reamer of Mt. Vernon, WA, Catherine (John Courrier) Reamer of Latham, James Reamer of LeRoy, Stephen Reamer of LeRoy, and Sally (Rick) Reid of Lockport; sisters Irma Sutherland of Edmunds, WA, and Margaret Green of Stafford; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and foreign exchange student Jose Gutierrez from Spain.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Nixon) Reamer, brothers Irving, Stephen, Albert, and Victor and sister’s Olga Heinick and Elsa Rathmell.
Family and friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday at Cameron Brady & Steuber Funeral Home, 111 Wolcott St. (Rt. 19 South), LeRoy. A memorial service will be held in his memory at 11 am Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, LeRoy.
